Beginning on the Howard‑Chickasaw County line at a point near the SW Corner Section 17‑T97N‑R12W, Howard County (NW Corner Section 20-T97N-R12W, Chickasaw County); thence north following substantially the section line of Section 17 and 8‑T97N‑R12W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 8‑T97N‑R12W; thence northeasterly and northwesterly through the west part of Section 8 and 5‑T97N‑R12W and Section 32 and 29‑T98N‑R12W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 29‑T98N‑R12W; thence north following substantially the section line of Section 29, 20, 17, 8 and 5‑T98N‑R12W and Section 32, 29, (junction of Iowa 9) 20, 17, 8 and 5‑T99N‑R12W and Section 32 and 29‑T100N‑R12W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 29‑T100N‑R12W; thence curving northwest through Section 30‑T100N‑R12W to a point approximately 600 feet west and 300 feet south of the NE Corner Section 30‑T100N‑R12W; thence in a northwesterly direction through Section 30 and 19‑T100N‑R12W, and Sections 24, 13, and 14‑T100‑R13W to the south corporation line of Chester, connecting with Main Street.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, US 63 in Howard County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

US 63 begins at the Howard‑Chickasaw County line, 9 miles southeast of Elma and travels in a northerly direction to the Iowa‑Minnesota state line via Chester, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate US 63 and its extension in Howard County as follows:

Beginning on the Howard‑Chickasaw County line at a point near the SW Corner Section 17‑T97N‑R12W, Howard County (NW Corner Section 20‑T97N‑R12W, Chickasaw County); thence northerly following substantially the section line of Section 17 and 8‑T97N‑R12W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 8‑T97N‑R12W; thence northeasterly and northwesterly through the west part of Sec, 8 and 5‑T97N-R12W and Section 32 and 29‑T98N‑R12W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 29‑T98N-R12W; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Section 29, 20, 17, 8 and 5‑T98N‑R12W and Section 32, 29, (junction of Iowa 9) 20, 17, 8 and 5‑T99N‑R12W and Section 32 and 29‑T100N‑R12W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 29‑T100N‑R12; thence curving in a northwesterly direction through Section 30-T100-R12W to a point on the south side of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad approximately 600 feet west and 300 feet south of the NE Corner Section 30‑T100N-R12W; thence in a northwesterly direction along the south side of said railroad and substantially parallel thereto through Section 30 and 19‑T100N-R12W, and Section 24, 13, and 14‑T100N‑R13W to a point near the center of Section 14‑T100N‑R13W; thence crossing to the north side of said railroad and continuing in a northwesterly direction along the north side of said railroad through section 14‑T100N‑R13W to the south corporation line of the City of Chester, connecting with an unnamed street.

Beginning at the south corporation line, connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northwesterly direction to the north corporation line, connecting with an unnamed street (Iowa‑Minnesota State line).

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of US 63 in Howard County.

NOTE: To become effective upon adoption of this resolution.

Beginning at the E ¼ Corner Section 7‑T97N-R12W; thence northeasterly to a point approximately 600 feet east of the E ¼ Corner Section 31‑T98N‑R12W; thence northwesterly to the E ¼ Corner Section 30‑T98N‑R12W.

NOW THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa State Highway Commission approve the revision of US 63 in Howard County, Iowa.

NOTE: The section of old US 63 (including connections to relocated US 63) from Station 151+11.4 to Station 210+50 will revert to Howard County secondary road system in accordance with Section 313.2 Code of Iowa.
